The 2011 BMW 1 series is a very good car that has great style, swagger and performance. It is a very nicely built and shaped car that is very appealing to look at, to drive with and a very good car to own. So what’s so good about the car? Well, let’s start by first talking about the changes seen in the 2011 version of the 1 series. To start things off, the 135i coupe as well as the convertible has been given a brand new turbocharged engine. Although the output of the car still remains the same as it did in the year 2010 version of the 1 series, the fuel efficiency of the car has been much better than before. The other changes that are seen in the BMW 1 series is finally the availability of the automatic transmission that comes as an optional feature. Like the M3 of 2011, the 1 series will be offering a 7 speed DCT transmission. The coupe and the convertible versions are offered in both the 128i as well as the 135i. Both, the 128i as well as the 135i have been given the 3.0 liter, inline 6 engines but what varies is the amount of output both these cars produce. Let’s start out with the focus on the 128i. The 128i has an output of just about 230 horsepower which runs on a 6 speed manual transmission (6 speed automatic is an optional). This car gave out an average of about 22 miles per gallon on both transmissions. Now, on to the 135i, as mentioned above it has been give the same engine as the 135i but this engine produces an output of 300 horsepower and is offered in the 6 speed manual transmission whereas a 7 speed DCT transmission is offered as an optional. The 1 series has plenty of safety features that include the anti-lock disc brakes which also come in the BMW M3. Other features that fall into the safety category include a traction and stability control (again also found in the M3), and finalyl front and side curtain airbags. Overall, this is a very good car and although some users might feel that it is not worthy enough to be considered a BMW, it definitely is. There have been a lot of improvements in the performance of the car that can be very visibly noticed from the first drive.
